South Steens HMA 2022 Post Gather Sheet
The Bureau of Land Management concluded the South Steens HMA (herd management area) wild horse capture on September 15, 2022. Helicopter trap operations lasted 5 days total. The Bureau of Land Management captured 753 wild horses which is about 250 more than originally stated. The Bureau increased the capture total on September 13 due to “severe drought conditions”, however, no threat of drought impacting the livestock that graze freely in the HMA were stated and no livestock were removed.
